Ten thousand candles light up the ground of this East Kanto branch temple of Yakushi-ji Temple, a world heritage. Held both in mid-August and on New Year’s Eve, the event can be both beautiful and solemn, and visitors of all religious persuasions are welcome. Particularly at the end-of-year event, people are encouraged to give thanks for the past year and make wishes for the next.
