Lion Dance of Uwado

The Lion Dance of Uwado dates back to 1395 and is designated by Ibaraki Prefecture as an intangible folklore cultural asset. Performers dressed in costumes of three lions–the wild male lion, gentle female lion, and middle lion who tries to bring harmony between the other two–dance to flutes and taiko drumming in hopes for an abundant harvest.
